IGN editors had a chance for a hands on look at Stargate Worlds at San Diego's Comic Con. See what they thought below.

I didn't get to see the story unfold, but apparently the future self will explain that the game's big bad guy is kind of his fault and he felt the need to come back and try to set things right. He tells the younger version the basics, the younger version heads off into the world, and you've got yourself a game. This section will be the only part of the game where Worlds holds your hand and keeps you from playing with your friends. It should only take between 30 and 40 minutes.

Stargate Worlds is set for an early 2009 release, and with that much time left, the folks from FireSky and Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment weren't ready to talk about too many specifics. There's going to be a large selection of planets, but they didn't want to say how many, although they did say that episodic patches are being planned post-launch that'll include new missions, items, and worlds. As far was how much a subscription to this world will cost you, I could only get them to say it'll be about what you'd expect for the average MMO fee.

If you're a Stargate nut, this game seems like it'll let you live your fantasy of existing in the SG-1 universe, and with 50 levels to ascend through, it'll probably keep you busy between DVD sessions.
