Interview with Quool of ShadowOps

Sallust

Sallust: might I have a bit of your time to dialogue with you?
Quool: Do you have an apartment here?
Quool: Yes of course.
Quool: This way.
Sallust: I just wanted the people of Rubi-Ka to get to know you a little better
Quool: The spreading of knowledge is a noble endeavor. I support your work in that direction.
Sallust: yes well today what I was hoping people could get to know was you
Quool: Why me, Sallust?
Quool: Let's have a seat.
image
Sallust: because you're someone of importance who has been affecting the course of Rubi-Ka
Quool: I have not noticed a major effect from my activities so far, but thanks for the compliment.
Sallust pauses
Sallust: sorry, emergency calls
Sallust: we'll finish this another time
Quool: Trouble does not need to be run into, it will come and find you anyways. Knowledge however, must often be sought out.

Columnists note: Indeed while I was called away trouble did indeed find Quool as he tried to sneak into Old Athen for some reason

... a couple days later Quool and I arranged to finish the interview by meeting in Jobe Plaza ...

Sallust: so Quool, do you want to continue allowing the Rubi-Ka public to get to know you better?
Sallust: or do you prefer I call you Mr. Marsalis?
Quool: Yes of course, sorry for the delay, this blood plasma is required immediately for some citizens in Upper Stret East Bank.
Travalyn: thanks a bunch q
Travalyn: need to make some back, spent all of it on this armor:)
Quool hands Travalyn a small package containing medical supplies.
Travalyn thanks Quool
Quool: I usually have this spot to myself.
Sallust: I think they're here to see one of us at least
Quool: Shall we head to my apartment? Anyone else coming in?
Sallust: with the events of last monday, I'm not allowed to spend too much time alone
Sallust: it should be a private affair this time I believe without any guards
Quool: What happened on Monday? Did the Dusters assault you as well?
Sallust: they assaulted Veritas. Duster assaults upon The Pilgrims have been less than successful.
Quool: Ok, let us depart.
Quool: Please have a look around, I need to do a couple of household duties.
image
Sallust: well, eventful interrupts aside Quool, I'm glad we have a chance to try and meet again
Quool: Please have a seat, I will join you shortly. Would you like anything to drink?
Sallust: just water would be nice
Quool: This water is for the tree.
Quool waters the Christmas Tree.
Sallust: excuse me, I must contact my security team to let them know I'm okay
Quool hands Sallust a glass of water.
Sallust takes the glass of water
Sallust takes a small sip and sets the glass down on the table
Quool: Yes, even in our homes, our duties call to us.
Sallust: I'm sure you're one of those for whom duty never ceases
Sallust: so, Max "Quool" Marsalis

Sallust: would you like to start with telling us where you're from and how you were raised?
Quool: Ah, an interesting place to start. I was raised and educated on Earth, where I majored in several disciplines. I then served on the Omni-Tek Board of Directors, where I constantly travelled between Rubi-Ka and Omni-Prime, but now live in Jobe, where I supervise several research projects.
Sallust: what I've heard places you as a once militant Omni-Tek combat medic, any truth to those rumors?
Quool: It's not a rumour, but a fact. There were many conflicts in the past on Rubi-Ka that required attention by medical personel. I have done work for Omni-Med and Omni-Pol and will probably do so again in the future.
Quool: I have not been active on Rubi-kan battlefields lately though. The conflict here has been completely overshadowed by the conflict on the Shadowlands. I don't fully understand it myself, but the stakes are higher.
Sallust: but according to reports you were once more active in a non-humanitarian way? rumor says you've had a change of focus
Quool: My participation in conflicts on Rubi-Ka is further complicated by the fact that insurance technology no longer works for me on Rubi-Ka.
Quool: I had a complete change of focus when the Notum Wars started, and my focus changed again when Jobe opened the portals to the Shadowlands.
Sallust: would you like to comment on the rumor that you've taken a stronger stance towards one side of Omni-Tek leadership and a stronger stance against others?
Quool: As a major shareholder of Omni-Tek stock, it is my responsibility to ensure Omni-Tek is operated in accordance with proper corporate governance procedures. I am not sure what else you are referring to, could you clarify?
Sallust: well some sources I've heard said you were a strong supporter of a military solution to the Rubi-Kan conflict, but that since the opening of the Shadowlands portal you've sided with a split in Omni leadership that would like to see a political settlement
Quool: A society requires a structure within which to operate effectively. I support having institutions in place which support the basics of civilized behaviour. Notum mining on Rubi-Ka is for the betterment of all of mankind in the Galaxy. It should be secured in the most cost effective way possible. Military solutions are very rarely efficient, or even an effective method to solve problems.
Sallust: lets go back to the Shadowlands. How do you think the opening of the Shadowlands has effected the Omni-Tek corporate structure? if you feel free to speak on it.
Quool: It has had minimal impact. The people of Rubi-Ka should keep in mind that Omni-Tek has over 8 billion employees, and that the corporate structure in largely located on Omni-Prime. There has been some effect on the corporate structure on Rubi-Ka. The situation has changed drasticly, and Omni-Tek must remain flexible to adjust for the changing environment.
Sallust: have you been on any expeditions into the shadowlands? what do you think of it and the conflict raging there?
Quool: I have explored the Shadowlands, as it was recommended by Phillip Ross. It is a confusing situation. The people there don't seem to be aware of the conflict on Rubi-Ka, yet much of their equipment inexplicable only works for people of certain affiliations. I have spoken with many people identified as Redeemed, they seemed to be expecting me and greeted me warmly, yet most of their equipment is incompatable. Most who identify themselves as Unredeemed have nothing to say to me, and I have little to say to them.
Quool: Ergo is an interesting character. He? seems to have been created as a result of a conflict between the people of Xan. Perhaps something will be born from the conflict between the Clans and Omni-Tek as well.
Quool: It will however as most births are, probably be painful.
Sallust: well said Quool
Sallust: so tell us a little more about Shadow Ops, and your place in this Omni-Tek department?
Quool: Shadow Ops is a unit of Omni-Pol. They are mostly concerned with counter-terrorism and counter-intellegence operations on Rubi-Ka, against those that would harm the citizens of Rubi-Ka, and their property.
Quool: I play an advisory role within the department. Supervising research teams and maintaining communications assets.
Sallust: I noted you said Shadow Ops protects "The citizen of Rubi-Ka" and not the citizens of Omni-Tek. So do you believe ShadowOps would protect Clans like the Knights against attack by terrorists such as the dust brigade?
Quool: As a unit of Omni-Pol, we are obligated to serve those in our jurisdiction, providing protection and law enforcement services to everyone, without prejudice.
Sallust: even non-Omni-Tek citizens?
Quool: Yes, all of Rubi-Ka is our jurisdiction. The political affiliation of the criminals or victims is of little consequence. Although they may also be aware of the political environment, as that could affect the effectiveness of law enforcement operations.
Quool: err, must instead of may.
Sallust: all of it is Omni-Tek jurisdiction? what about Clan held areas? do you recognize the Clans as independents the same as ICC?
Quool: What I personally recognize in of little consequence. There are people living in all areas of Rubi-Ka. We have a responsibility to provide law enforcement services regardless of their physical location. It this millenia, with whompas, grid, and transport nano-formulas, geographic location has little meaning when determining and individuals responsibilities and rights.
Sallust: how do you feel about the Rubi-Kan economy? its had some ups and downs according to the news, even I've felt it a little
Quool: My assets on Rubi-Ka represent only a small percentage of my total holdings. The economy on Rubi-Ka has little effect on me personally. One must keep in persective the value of a credit. Profit is not why we are here, just as oxygen is not the reason we are here. A corporation requires profit to survive, just as most organisms require oxygen.
Sallust: purpose, a very important question. One I don't hear most corporate citizens put outside terms of wealth. What would you say is your purpose then and the purpose of Omni-Tek?
Quool: Omni-Tek was created to improve the quality of life for humanity. To a great extent, it represents the will of the people of the galaxy, as over % of the people in the galaxy own Omni-Tek stock, either directly or through a mutual fund or pension plan. Our customers depend on us for a steady supply of all kinds of commodities, including notum. Employees depend on Omni-Tek for stability. The purpose of Omni-Tek is to improve the lives of all of humanity, not just those fortunate enough to be physically located on Rubi-Ka. Profit is simply necessary to ensure continued operations.
Sallust: I think that is a good place to leave it for our Inquirers
Sallust: Quool, serving Omni-Tek for a more prosperous humanity
Quool: That is enough for now. Knowledge is something that is best acquired in small amounts. Too much knowledge too fast can be just as dangerous as ignorance.
